Airport planning
Vienna Airport to Stay Area Planner
Help visitors identify practical airport connections for the area where they are staying. This planner reflects the major Vienna rail works from September 2026 and links to official live journey tools for exact departure times.
Important service update
Major Vienna S-Bahn modernisation affects normal airport–city rail connections from 7 September 2026 until the expected end of October 2027. The Stammstrecke section between Wien Praterstern and Wien Hauptbahnhof is closed for 14 months.
During this period, Wien Mitte/Landstraße is not served by S7 rail services, the S7 is shortened to St. Marx, REX7 is routed via Wien Hauptbahnhof, CAT runs replacement buses between Wien Mitte and the airport, and Vienna Airport Bus adds a Praterstern connection from 5 September 2026.
Normal pre-works advice such as “S7 directly to Wien Mitte” may not apply. Service arrangements can change — check official sources before travelling.

How this planner works
- Choose the stay area that matches your hotel or planned base.
- Select what matters most for your airport journey. Your main priority is weighted more heavily than an optional second priority.
- The planner compares fixed suitability scores (0–3) for each connection strategy. These are editorial planning scores, not live timetables.
- During the Stammstrecke works (from 7 September 2026 until the expected end of October 2027), normal S7-to-Mitte and CAT rail advice may not apply.
- Always check current departures on official ÖBB and Wiener Linien planners before travelling.
Suitability uses six editorial dimensions (directness, transfer simplicity, luggage practicality, area proximity, main-station convenience and works-period resilience) scored 0–3 for each stay area and connection. Your main priority counts three times per dimension and an optional second priority twice. Tied scores keep the fixed mode order documented in the implementation report.
