Central location with comfortable rooms and attentive staff

Great service delivered by all staff, I asked a few questions ahead of arrival with prompt and thorough responses which were followed through on. Rooms have a comfortable large bed with great temperature control to ensure a good night's sleep. Shower has waterfall and shower head options but somewhere along the line the head has been changed and now doesn't quite fit one of the cradles. Lots of towels and pool towels provided, negative would be nowhere to place your wet towels post shower/pool to dry. Breakfast has enough choice however due to the hot section being opposite the outside terrace the breeze flows straight in cooling the choices very quickly. Should imagine not an issue in the summer months. Spa was closed for refurbishment but massage was still available, I had a massage with Katerina, I think that was her name as I was so chilled and relaxed post massage I can't quite remember. Very skilled and attentive and after spending a few days seeing the sights a great way to relieve the tired muscles. The rooftop bar had great staff with some skilled cocktail makers, a great selection of wine for chilling after the day. Overall I would stay again and recommend it to others.

Location is perfect Rooms are very minimalist but very clean They don't cater for tea or coffee so there is a kettle in the room but have to ask for milk daily No help with transfers Breakfast ok but not very warm Spa closed and the terrace bar never open Not a lot of room when maximum guests are here

Lovely stay at a very convenient hotel

We stayed at The Vine in late January, early February. On arrival we were upgraded to a deluxe front-facing king room which was lovely. The room was well apportioned with a huge bathtub, separate shower and toilet. There was a small balcony that looked over the street. The only issue with the room, and the hotel for that matter, was that I found the mattress and pillows far too soft, very unusual for a hotel. This unfortunately impacted on my sleep quality. The location of the hotel is superb, with lots of fabulous restaurants just a short walk away. The shopping centre below is so useful to with access via a lift which goes directly up to your floor. The city centre is easily accessible, as is the area up towards Reid's Hotel, with all the restaurants in that location about a 20-minute walk away. We hired a car for 3 days and the hotel free parking was very much appreciated. The breakfast was quite repetitive but good with plenty of choice and hot food on display and available to order. The pool and rooftop area is wonderful with fabulous views over the city. We stopped at the Savoy last year which we thoroughly enjoyed but we preferred the city centre location of The Vine. Highly recommended.

A Sublime Hotel

A wonderful hotel that is located right in the heart of Funchal and directly on top of a superb shopping centre. The staff at the hotel are first class and attention to detail is second to none. A special mention to Charles the Reservations Manager who made a dual birthday celebration very memorable. Without a doubt I will return and the whole two weeks was seamless, faultless & and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Many thanks to all and well done.

Wonderful Stay

An outstanding experience from start to finish. A warm welcome from the reception staff on arrival who then booked a table at a nearby restaurant on our behalf. An extremely modern and comfortable room perfectly maintained. The rooftop pool and bar are quite spectacular with amazing views. Breakfast was superb with all needs offered and catered for. On departure the porter arranged our taxi and ensured it arrived on time. One final observation is the location, everything in Funchal was within a relatively short walking distance which allowed us to make the most of our time. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Rooftop paradise!

Great location, lovely people... the TV in our room reception was poor, apart from that a GREAT stay!

Great Central location

We arrived early and enjoyed waiting on the roof terrace waiting for the room to be ready The room was exactly what we expected and the only tiny niggle was a lack of space adjacent to the bed which is an inconvenience when it is time to sleep and you have to put technology etc on the main table to charge Breakfast had a great range and always treated ourselves with a glass of fizz The roof terrace has great view and service at the bar is very attentive

The best place to stay in Funchal

We stayed for 6 amazing nights. Our rooms were amazing, the hotel won design prizes again and again. We had a problem with the room and they changed to another one. But all rooms are very modern with a huge tub and shower and great bed. The location cannot be better, next to a great mall, a few minutes and you are in the old town and on the water for a morning jog. The gym is large and has new equipment. Tons of restaurants and bars all in a few minutes' walk. Breakfast was amazing-all you can want hot and cold. And last the staff were friendly, always wanting to help whether in the reception or at the dining room. Special thanks to Louis Brito for helping us a few times including car problem. Thanks!!

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were always excellent. We particularly enjoyed visiting the rooftop (terrace) bar, especially during its 'happy hour'! Mixed feelings about our room. Although undoubtedly stylish, it was surprisingly dark and we thoroughly disliked the needlessly complex lighting controls. We would also have preferred a more complete separation of 'private' facilities (toilet and shower) from the other living quarters.
