We will never return to St. Regis

Hotels are in poor maintenance condition. Terrace furniture at the restaurant was rusty, tabletops were broken, and the terrace was completely charmless. The service was almost non-existent

  • Maintenance condition everywhere was poor. Buggy service to and from the room was not working. The coffee machine in the room was leaking, causing water all over the table - all in all, a dull experience

Exceptional Experience

We stayed here for 4 nights during low season and found it very relaxing, particularly the views and being surrounded by nature. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and we would enjoy staying here again if in Langkawi. We are platinum elite and were upgraded to a one-bedroom partial sea view. We were able to check in early, and the room was already available upon arrival, which we appreciated. The butler provided a helpful tour of the property before arriving at our room where our luggage was waiting. The butler also shared an overview of the services available, which included complimentary coffee delivery 3 times a day that came with delicious cookies, as well as daily clothes pressing services for four pieces. It was very convenient to be able to contact the butler service via WhatsApp, and they were very responsive and helpful. The room itself was spacious with a separate living area, double sinks in the bathroom, and a small balcony. A welcome gift of a fruit plate, snacks, and chocolates was left in the room, which was a nice touch. We received breakfast with our room as well as a complimentary drinks hour for platinum members. The breakfast had a variety of options including a made-to-order menu. We particularly enjoyed the Malay food, including the rotating chicken and beef dishes at the buffet, and the Kaya toast from the made-to-order menu. We also enjoyed the croissants, fruit, and nut options. The elite drinks hour is from 5 pm-6:30 pm and included sodas, juices, two cocktail options, and a few liquors that could be mixed. It would be nice if they offered beer as an option instead of only hard liquor. The pool was nice with a small seating area and a very small separate kids' pool that looked like a water feature. Due to being low season, we were generally able to get chairs near the pool, but I assume this would be difficult in the higher season. One set of chairs was on an island within the pool, so you would get wet trying to leave the pool, but it was a nice oasis within the seating areas. The beach had more seating, and we were frequently the only people at the beach in the mornings during the higher tides. Because the beach is a cove, there were some issues with trash washing up to the shore from other areas which the hotel cannot prevent. But the staff were very responsive about cleaning the areas. The walkway to the overwater restaurant also connects to the neighboring Westin and was a good place to watch the sunset. However, the end of the bridge on the Westin’s side was where a lot of trash would collect from the water and should be cleaned more regularly. There were a few issues with the room during our stay that we generally tried to manage on our own. The air conditioning units in the room were set in a way that needed to be changed as the unit in the bedroom was set to automatically turn off after 60 minutes which made sleeping difficult. The unit in the living room would automatically reset to 20 degrees even if you made it warmer. We were able to figure out the master settings for each thermostat on our own, but this was confusing initially. There was also an issue with the television as several of the channels listed in the guide either didn’t work or were static/poor quality. Lastly, several pieces of furniture in the living area could benefit from a deep cleaning as they were visibly dirty and the cover for the couch was not properly zipped together and was coming off in the seat. We also had an issue with the lights one of the nights that required maintenance to reset the relay. When we reported this to the butler, they sent maintenance promptly to fix it, which we appreciated since we were getting ready for bed and it affected being able to turn off the bedroom ceiling light. One other issue we noticed was with the tours offered by the tour desk. The packages offered for purchase included mangrove tours that had eagle and fish feeding. These types of activities interfere with the natural environment of this UNESCO heritage site, and we were disappointed that the tour offerings weren’t more environmentally conscious. We chose to book a mangrove tour externally via an eco-friendly company called Junglewalla. It was very easy and affordable to get around the island using Grab, including to/from the airport and Kuah town. Overall, despite these issues, we really enjoyed our stay, particularly due to the kindness and level of service the staff provided. All of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and make sure you’re taken care of. From the pool staff always refilling water poolside to the breakfast staff remembering you every morning and suggesting items to try, we really appreciated their extra efforts to make sure we had a pleasant stay. We’d return in a heartbeat.

Amazing time at St Regis

Breakfast had a great spread of Asian options, but lunch and dinner leaned more heavily Western. An Indian option at some point would have been a nice touch, especially being in Malaysia, though completely understandable if it’s not their focus. A couple of things could be improved. The sunbeds were uncomfortable: the padding was thin and not properly secured to the frame, so they shifted around. Beach service was also a missed opportunity. Staff were happy to bring food and drinks when asked, but they didn’t proactively come round to offer, so we ended up ordering less than we would have otherwise. A simple fix would be QR codes at the sunbeds for easy ordering. Wi-Fi in the room was also patchy, which was frustrating in the evenings when we wanted to unwind with the TV. One evening we took the buggy over to The Westin nearby for dinner, a great steak and lobster linguine, with genuinely good service there too (and a monkey stealing someone’s bread on the way, which was a fun bonus). It was a nice night out, but it just confirmed for us that The St. Regis was the better stay. Minor issues aside, this was a fantastic stay and I’d happily return.

Excellent experience!

Excellent service at every level from check-in, dining, pool room. The views are spectacular from the 5th-floor sea-facing rooms. Food at Kayu Putih had an excellent devastation menu. The Filipino chef was impressive and passionate about his creations. Our butler Omar spoke perfect English. 🤣 Director Ganesan was efficient and ran the hotel well. 💪🏼 Would recommend and visit again.

Outstanding!!!

From the moment you step into this resort, you relax and feel at home. The resort is so picturesque and great views across the bay to wake up to every morning. We had a sea view, and the room itself was huge and exquisite. Yes, the views are amazing, but what does make this place outstanding is the staff. Every member of staff we encountered was never intrusive but always went out of their way to make our stay the most enjoyable, including staff that were working in the back kitchens would stop and wish you a good day. I can’t just personalize one person out as all the staff were amazing in every aspect. On a personal note, after speaking with the recreational staff, I was informed that there is a football inter-competition between the hotels on the island and that the St Regis participates in this. Personally, I think this is great for staff bonding but was informed the captain has recently left. I did put forward that ‘Gary should step into this role from the recreation team but apparently he needs to learn the offside rule. Myself and my wife like to try different hotels, etc., but if you were to ask us would we go back to this resort the answer is a definite yes. Everything about this place is amazing. Thanks to all the staff at the St Regis for making our stay a most enjoyable one. Paul and Naomi

Fabulous!

We had an amazing time staying at the St. Regis Langkawi. It’s a smaller resort which feels secluded but is accessible to everything on the island. The buffet breakfast at the hotel is outstanding, and room service was consistently good. The staff is exceptionally kind and attentive and really added to the great experience. I’d like to especially thank Yvonne, Safuan, and Nazz for their warmth and hospitality. We hope to return again soon.
