The hotel was excellent. The staff were fantastic, extremely accommodating.
Location was great, nice area, plenty to walk to. Staff were excellent, their recommendations for restaurants were great, and they helped us out with travel planning. The general vibe of the place was certainly relaxing.

- • Bed was a bit hard for my liking. The smell from guests smoking cigars in the courtyard came into our room one night.

Sowaka is peaceful, serene and low key luxury. I highly recommend it for your stay in Kyoto.
My daughter and I absolutely loved our stay at Sokawa. The common spaces were designed beautifully incorporating the older structure, including the entrance, staff welcoming area and dining and lounge areas seamlessly with the newer building which is where our room was located. Every staff member from arrival to departure was professional, kind and helpful with any and every need (anticipated or not). Breakfast was included in our stay and it was fresh and delicious. The attention to detail and responsiveness to each and every question or need, surpassed our expectations.

- • Our room was in the new annex and the traditional Japanese beds were less a little tough on our backs. Would have preferred thicker mattresses.
