Fabulous experience
The room cleaning team and reception staff were amazing, they helped us solve a big problem with extreme professionalism and correctness. Special mention to them. The Sofitel in Hanoi is fabulous!

The best hotel experience of my life. Out of hundreds of hotels and thousands of room nights, this was the best.
The best hotel experience of my life. Out of hundreds of hotels and thousands of room nights, this was the best. We stayed twice: first in the Opera Wing, then returned to the Heritage Wing. I booked the entry-level room in each wing, but with ALL Platinum status this gave us lounge access and, critically, butler service. It was our butlers, Daphne and Chris, who made this stay unlike any hotel experience I have ever had. They set a bar so high that I genuinely do not believe it could be beaten. From check-in to check-out and beyond, the butler service was impeccable. Anything we wanted to know was answered quickly; anything we needed was made to happen. We met several times a day for a catch-up and to discuss our Vietnam plans, and the advice was always practical, personal and thoughtful. I have never known service like this, or even a quarter of this, at any hotel before. If you can, ensure that your rate or status includes lounge access, because for us that was what made the stay unforgettable. Beyond Daphne and Chris, everyone we met was exemplary. I will single out Tommy and Kevin in the Opera Lounge: Kevin remembered my drink on the second night even when I had forgotten it myself. But I could just as easily mention the staff at the restaurants, bars, gym (incredible gym by the way, best ever hotel gym), doormen, housekeeping staff and everyone else we encountered. Every single person greeted us warmly and seemed genuinely happy in their work. There was not a crack in the service level anywhere. It was extraordinary. The hotel is really two hotels in one: the historic Heritage Wing and the newer Opera Wing, each with separate lounge and breakfast facilities. Having experienced perfection in Opera, we returned to try Heritage. Heritage is considered the more historic and formal experience, and it is certainly beautiful, but I would be very happy in either wing next time. My husband’s favorite food is Vietnamese vegan pho, and he said the breakfast pho in Opera was the best he had ever had. He also said the whole hotel experience was the best of his life “and it’s not even close.” Both wings gave us 24/7 butler access via WhatsApp, and we especially enjoyed the complimentary baths they would prepare for us at any time. What took the stay to another level was how personal it became. Daphne and Chris remembered details, anticipated what we might need, gave us advice that felt genuinely human rather than scripted, and on our return wrote us heartfelt welcome notes that went far beyond corporate hospitality language, together with an incredibly meaningful personalized welcome gift. They have cemented themselves as a huge part of our positive memories of Hanoi. Top tip: consider the ALL Voyager card - the benefits helped dramatically reduce the cost of staying here, and the thirty status nights that come with it get you halfway to Platinum too. I do not know what else to tell you. Swallow hard, pay the money, and let this hotel give you one of the great travel memories of your life. Ours will last forever.

Metropole Sofitel
We spent two nights at the Metropole hotel. Our last day we ate lunch at the Spice Galley restaurant. We had a really nice experience, I had beef pho and the pork belly which were delicious. We were treated by the restaurant manager, Ngoc, with Lotus tea. She explained to us the way they make the lotus tea. Apparently they take the green teas and place them inside the lotus flower for one day and then repeat This process creates the complex fragrances and flavors of the lotus tea. The buffet includes sashimi tuna and fresh fruit For dessert, I had flan and yogurt with fermented rice The decor is French inspired and not crowded Overall, a wonderful meal with very attentive staff for about 100 USD for 2 diners

Returning to my Homeland ..
Hanoi is truly a magical & charming city .. Staying at this iconic Hotel for 4 nights was truly captivating. Its greatest allure is how it reflects Hanoi’s story. That is, from the colonial era through the war years to its cosmopolitan present. This magnificent Hotel has a prime location in the 19th-century French Quarter, steps from Hoan Kiem Lake. The Hotel has two distinctive wings – original early 20th-century building and the contemporary wing. We stayed in the former Heritage Wing, embracing a refined French-Indochine aesthetic and contemporary comforts. There is a sense that many staff members have been at the Hotel for decades. They know exactly what they are doing which lends a welcome warmth! We enjoyed an assortment of culinary delights in the Hotel, exceptional and refined collection of dining & bar venues. We thoroughly enjoyed the immersive complimentary evening tour of the hotel’s wartime bunker, most illuminating. This notable Hotel has witnessed over a century of historic events & distinguished guests and have lived to tell the tale! It certainly is a ‘legend’ Hotel .. come and witness it for yourself!
