The hostel upgraded me to another hostel (Crash Palace Backpackers) due to an on-site maintenance issue. I will not be able to review Rotorua Downtown Backpackers. The owner has multiple sites and I was informed in advance. Everything went super well: great quality customer satisfaction 🤗👌

- • Very old carpets and a lot of spiders/spider webs in the window were the only real negatives
Very pleased. Staff are friendly and excellent. Very tidy. Of course. I was the only oldie!
So many food choices. Police station and Howard Morrison Theatre across the road. Lake and gardens within walking distance. I am 80 years old and would stay here again!

- • Soundproofing is very poor, should say 100% no soundproofing, outside street noise, people passing in the corridor, next door talking, all can be heard~ Bunk bed stairs shake, creaking when going up and down. No hot water in the bathroom, water is cold but in winter this temperature will be cold, if the next door is also showering, the water will become very small. For locals: Don't stay if you are not tough!
