Excellent

The pool is very nice, excellent temperature, and the hotel's location in relation to the beach is excellent. We had a bit of bad weather which affected the beach a little, but it remains one of the best beaches in Cozumel.

  • The check-in time was too long, it took us about an hour to complete all the paperwork. Lack of air conditioning in the restaurant makes it very uncomfortable to eat in such heat.

Reasonable cost-benefit

The hotel has a beautiful green area. Friendly employees. The room is spacious, as well as the bathroom. The furniture is old, but I didn't have any problems with allergies. The room's air conditioning worked well. Firm and good mattresses.

  • No smart TV. No possibility to connect to streaming services. Check-in problem - delay - our room was only available after 3:30 pm. They put us in a room with a double bed, even though we reserved a room with two double beds. We complained and they gave us the option to include an 'extra bed' in the room. Those extra beds were horrible. The other option was to change to another room with two beds, but there was no minibar available. They said we could make requests by phone at no cost; however, the phone was not working. Food options were quite poor for the category. We stayed for 6 days and on some of them, we ate at restaurants in other places. Poor shower - almost dripping, and only very hot or cold water came out. Terrible sweets. Very poor Wi-Fi on the beach. Loud noise - close to the apartment - due to the evening attractions (until 10 pm). Heat in the breakfast room as the air conditioning was not working. Bracelet - if you lose the hotel's identification bracelet, you have to pay $60. A ridiculous bracelet for that price. The way they put it on your arm makes it come loose over time. I took it off and kept it to avoid losing it. From 4:30 to 6 pm, there were no meal options available anywhere. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the drinks.

An excellent experience

The hotel is very beautiful, very clean and well-maintained. The menus, although a bit limited, everything I tried was very tasty. The hotel's architecture is beautiful, warm, and very cozy.

  • The TVs are outdated or the cable service is not good. I think that would be the only downside; otherwise, it's an excellent place, I loved it.

  • THE FOOD, poor attention at reception. We arrived at eleven in the morning and understood the check-in policy at 3 in the afternoon, although they made no attempt to see if we could enter earlier, which they did with other clients. The receptionist was very unfriendly. So much so that she didn't even give us the welcome drink that I saw them giving to others. The worst part is that when I went to reception at 3:05 to pick up my key, they told me that the room was still not ready. So I decided to wait for 10 minutes and returned to reception, and they still said it wasn't ready, already very upset and impatient, I showed my displeasure to the receptionist. Since if they are so strict with the check-in time, they should at least have it ready by 3. Within a minute, the receptionist came to bring us the key to the adjacent room where we were, how curious that the room was not ready and suddenly it was. Another thing that disappointed us a lot was the food, especially breakfast, which seemed like it was from a bad three-star hotel, in a completely outdated dining room, with insufficient air conditioning, and very low-quality food, so much so that you didn't know what to eat. But the worst part was that dinner was in the same dining room with even more heat and much worse quality, the free drinks are a joke because you ask for Coca-Cola and they give you a cola drink diluted with a lot of water and no gas, disgusting. I would prefer to pay for it and not be mocked. The only place where we ate somewhat well was at the buffet at noon by the sea.

All in all it was a beautiful place, but they need more cooling and dining options.

  • There's no air conditioning in the main restaurant and many of the buildings. It was extremely hot! The food was not that good at all except the Mediterranean restaurant. Having to go all the way down to the beach for lunch was not always convenient. Was not told about the extra city taxes we had to pay.

Family trip to Cozumel

So here is my review of the resort. Beaches/Pools - awesome. 5 stars there. Great beaches and 2 very big pools with available bars and plenty of chairs and umbrellas. Restaurants - ok, so this is where it's 'meh'. There are 5 restaurants. For breakfast, it's really one restaurant. Same for lunch. Dinner has 4 restaurants available, 3 of the 4 are reservation only. So if you don't have any reservations, then it's the same 3 options. Staff - they were awesome. We did have an issue with not having hot water in the shower, and it was taken care of that day. Activities - there were plenty of activities organized during the day; darts, volleyball, ping pong. Even during the evenings, there were some organized activities that were great. If I had one negative thing to say, it would be the lack of air-conditioned spaces. Yes, the rooms had AC. The only places that really had AC were the bar. The buffet areas were not air-conditioned. 2 out of the 3 reservation restaurants were air-conditioned, but that's it. Was that a big issue? No, but it's something that might have factored into my decision on choosing the resort.

My experience

I lived in Mexico for a year and have stayed in many hotels. Most of the staff were unfriendly and inattentive. The food is acceptable, but not exceptional. Personally, I was not satisfied with my stay considering the amount of money I paid.

EXCELLENT/BEAUTIFUL OCCIDENTAL

I stayed at the Occidental from June 3, 2026, to June 8, 2026. My group included 2 couples including myself and my boyfriend along with my 2 kids in their 30's with another 30-year-old friend. Our stay was FABULOUS! The resort is BEAUTIFUL. It is jungle-like and very lush. The staff from check-in to check-out were friendly, attentive, professional. Yes, the buffet could have had better choices, but we really only had the buffet for Breakfast. We made Dinner reservations at the Seafood restaurant and the Mexican restaurant, and both were EXCELLENT! During the day, we were exploring the town and found fabulous food there. For an all-inclusive, the resort was 5-star, from the beach, to the pool, the nightly entertainment. The Occidental will definitely be an annual go-to spot for us!! Everyone in our group agrees! FABULOUS TIME! Thank you

Disappointing for an All-Inclusive. Poor organization and poor food.

The bed and pillows were excellent. The late-night pizzas were delicious.

  • The check-in process is extremely slow, there are very few seats to wait, and the staff does not guide you or provide clear information; they literally do not assist you until you approach to ask. For room delivery at 3:00 pm, it was another chaos: they do not respect the order of arrival, they attend to those who arrive later, and no one assists you on their own initiative. They give you a very poor quality bracelet that if lost, they charge you $60. In 15 minutes, it came off, and I had to go back to the reception to get another one. They offer you a complimentary jacuzzi, but at reception, they don't even know what's going on: they sent me to the spa on the second floor just for them to tell me there that the jacuzzi was broken. They made us waste time. The same with the reservations for a la carte restaurants: on Sunday, we made a reservation by phone from the room without any problem for Monday. On Monday, the receptionist confirmed that I should call the same way for Tuesday. When I called on Tuesday, they told me in a bad way that 'it cannot be done by phone' and that this is not the procedure, making me feel like I was crazy and that what I did on Monday never happened. Very poor food and drinks: They claim to have 7 restaurants, but for lunch, they only open one (the one on the beach). The food doesn't taste good. The fruit juice is powdered juice, the drinks are bad (I ended up just drinking water), and the ice cream is terrible. If you come with high expectations from the food at Xcaret parks, you will be disappointed here. Breakfast is rich and varied, but the heat is unbearable because the air conditioners are in poor condition. For the buffet dinner, it's exactly the same: they only open one restaurant (the same as for breakfast), with the same suffocating heat, tasteless food, and very few 'safe' international options (like hamburgers or hot dogs). It's not high season, and yet at 2:00 PM, they no longer had towels at the pool.
