Absolute best hotel experience

My wife and I had booked the grand central for our wedding reception and we absolutely made the right decision to have it here. We had 18 guests so was an intimate wedding. The staff, specifically Arthur were fantastic. They treat you like you’re a VIP. The food was out of this world but the staff alone made our night they are just fantastic people. We got upgraded to the Sir William Hastings suite but we didn’t realise until checking out that it was the best room in the full hotel. The whole experience from start to finish was just amazing and we can’t wait to go back for a wee overnight. Also the concierge John Mac was the nicest man ever helped us so much with his knowledge etc he was just lovely.

Exceptionally clean and comfortable

The room was very clean and the products in the bathroom were fab! The room had everything we needed ie iron, ironing board, tea/coffee, excellent WiFi and great big TV!

  • The fire alarm going off early morning woke us up, and was only switched off just before we checked out. There was a smell in the bathroom, I believe it may have been coming from the drains.

Comfortable Room, Disappointing Service Throughout the Stay

The room itself was comfortable, clean, and well maintained, which is the reason I am not giving an even lower rating. Unfortunately, the service throughout my stay was consistently disappointing. At breakfast on every occasion, I had to ask more than once for coffee, and it regularly arrived so late that I had almost finished eating before it appeared. I also attempted to order room service on two separate evenings after working late, but nobody answered the phone at all. I then decided to try the restaurant instead. Staff were walking around while I stood waiting to be seated and nobody acknowledged me. I eventually had to ask the concierge whether dinner service was still operating. After finally being seated, my order was taken, but after waiting more than 20 minutes not even the drink had arrived, despite the restaurant not being busy. I ended up leaving. To finish the stay, I asked the concierge to arrange a taxi for 4:45am. Despite the booking sheet clearly showing 4:45, the taxi was booked for the wrong time. Luckily I contacted the taxi company myself to check what was happening. Overall, the hotel itself has potential and the rooms were perfectly fine, but the level of service was frustratingly poor throughout my stay.

Disappointing for a 5 star

Disappointing for a five star. Room was a delux double. However we were given a third floor room with no view or rather a view of the air conditioning units and accompanying noise. The room itself was comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. Nice products and robes provided. The lifts require your pass key to select a floor but they seemed completely random in what floor they went to. Breakfast hours are generous but still long queues in the self service restaurant. Food typically average as served in hot trays. Parking is subsidised or valet parking can be requested. The car park is the great northern which is 10 minutes walk. We visited the acclaimed observatory bar for a cocktail. It was busy so seating was limited. Prices are high as to be expected £18 for a tasty cocktail but served in what can only be described as a mug. The waiter was excellent. Helpful and friendly.

5star experience.

Visited to meet with a friend and had a drink in the observatory. Beautiful views over Belfast. The staff were friendly and attentive. Caitlin was welcoming and chatty. I stayed in the hotel the following evening after attending a works related training course held in the Blackstaff conference room. Fresh jugs of water and refreshments were provided throughout the 2 days. The toilet facilities were immaculate. I was checked in by Hannah who had a smiling face and a welcoming professional tone. The bedroom exceeded my expectations and was spotless and well presented. The housekeeping team clearly do a wonderful job. Food in the restaurant was delicious. Michael was the person looking after our table of 12. He was welcoming friendly and attentive. An absolute 5 star experience. Thank you to all the teams.

True hospitality

I had an overnight stay yesterday and everything was seamless from the moment of arrival to check out this morning and the reception manger niall made this interaction so enjoyable. I had dinner and breakfast in the grand cafe and I just wanted to highlight some key team members who truly made my stay special. this morning I was served by a lovely cheerful sever called Eva she’s a real addition to the team. for my dinner last night I was served by a supervisor called Beth and she truly made the whole dinner with her bubbly personality and just to highlight another star within the hotel would be Micheal serving the Most amazing cocktails and giving all the craic at the same time he’s a true addition to the grand central will definitely be back
