A hotel never keeps its word, even in writing!
As a loyal customer of IHG, I took a personal trip to Chengdu with my kid and booked 3 nights for a twin bed. Due to some conference, Crowne Plaza Chengdu West called me and said they would upgrade me to a suite at the club floor for some reason. Upon check-in, I told them I wanted a twin bed as the suite only had one king-size bed. So they said they could set up a small bed. On day 1, I went to the club lounge without any trouble. Also, on the 2nd day morning for breakfast. Only on the 2nd day evening when I tried to enter the club lounge, I was asked to pay for the service. I showed the staff, Ms. Ding, my reservation that entitled me to club floor access. But Crowne Plaza West insisted that my upgrade to the club floor did not include the club lounge. To me, what the hotel puts in writing can also be denied responsibility. I will say I have no trust in this hotel. I hope IHG can put the management of Chengdu West in order.

The staff was excellent. They went above and beyond to make my family and me feel welcome. The rooms were nice, but some aspects felt past their prime. While the room was non-smoking, there was a lingering smell of smoke in some areas. The hotel is far away from the city center and required a long walk to get to any food options. However, it was very convenient for our trip out of Xipu Station.

Shower stall was very moldy (black) and the carpet was full of stains. Smelled like beer.

Very accommodating staff
Big hotel, not many English-speaking staff, which is typical for this area. Great location for travel though. The hotel is business-oriented, huge, very clean, and in a good location around a 5-10 minute walk to various shops, restaurants, and a metro station.

Nice stay in Chengdu
Excellent hotel at a good price (western standards). The hotel is very modern, clean. Rooms are spacious, modern, and high quality. Breakfast buffet was outstanding, with an extensive selection. Highly recommend.

Great location for the nearby industrial area!!!
I work for one of the nearby semiconductor manufacturing companies. We have found that you can stay in Chengdu City Center and have a lot of things to do on the weekend but have a long drive in the Chengdu traffic every morning and evening (45 minutes to an hour each way) to get to work. Though there's not a lot to see around Chengdu West, the food is great, the trip to work is short, and the City Center is only 100 RMB away (~$13 by Taxi). AND the hotel is great!!! The buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner are great, have a wide variety, and are affordable. Should you choose to go out for dinner, the choices are many, varied, and low-priced. There are several malls in the area that have well-respected restaurants, and I recommend a good Hot Pot house. All of the service people in the hotel were great and helped us find several restaurants and places to visit. They called Taxis for us and told them where to take us and assisted with using the meter or not. The only thing that kept the score from being a 5 was the pool was being repaired and out of service the entire time we were there. It did not appear to have any workmen attending it the entire time we were there either. So not sure how long it will be this way.

Not a 5-star hotel in some regards
The hotel has excellent facilities like a swimming pool and a well-equipped gym. The only downside is that the exterior part of the hotel was undergoing some road work and renovation. There was no proper signage on the way to access the hotel. As the entrance is on the second floor, the path to get to the lobby is not clearly labeled, and I had to travel a fair distance to get to the lobby. It was inconvenient when I had luggage to lug. A few days before I checked out, the road to access the lobby was sealed off, and again no access sign was placed to guide the hotel guests to access the main road. I think the hotel needs to be preemptive in ensuring that signage is clearly placed to guide the exit and entrance into the lobby from the main road. The staircase also needs to be lit properly. On the night when the earthquake tremor was felt, I could not access the ground floor using the staircase because it was poorly lit.
