A hotel where love for design and customer service truly shines through in everything. Zoku is also B Corp certified and — what I find perhaps even more interesting — a significant part of the company is owned by the people who work there. You can feel that. Employees don't act as if they are 'working in a hotel', but as if they are co-responsible for the place and for your stay. And that makes a difference. Even the rooms have been carefully considered. Not a square meter is wasted: smart solutions for storage, a nice workspace, the ability to prepare something simple, a good bathroom, and pleasant soap and shampoo. Even the books on the shelf have been carefully chosen. It's those details that make design not only beautiful but functional. Upstairs you'll find the social areas and a large terrace overlooking the Prater, one of Europe's oldest amusement parks. The metro is practically around the corner, the Donauinsel is a few stops away, and Vienna's city center is also nearby. So. I'll stop now, otherwise you might think I have shares. I don't. What I do have is a great appreciation for businesses where social intelligence and business sense reinforce each other. Where good employer practices, smart design, and a healthy business model are not separate from each other. Zoku understands that quite well.

- • Looks chic in the photos, that's why I booked. On-site, however, the disillusionment: For the price, I expect at least room service every other day. For five nights, no one came here once. When I asked for the trash to be emptied, they just said, 'You do it yourself, there is a pantry with towels and trash cans.' No one told me that at check-in. Anyone who wants to work here is lost. There is not a single desk with a chair where you can sit for more than twenty minutes without getting back pain. Upstairs, it's either freezing cold or way too hot, there's no pleasant temperature. Wiping tables in the restaurant: not happening. Snacks in between? Also not. There is only a buffet, and if you don't feel like the big buffet, but just want a little something, you'll get it at the earliest at 5 p.m. – and then in a very limited selection. And then there's the bed, which you practically have to crawl out of. For young people in their early 20s, this may be charming and alternative. At a certain age or with back problems: no thanks. Conclusion: The concept is hotel (own room, own bathroom), but the lived experience is hostel standard – just at hotel prices.

- • I didn't realize that 'view of the roller coaster' meant that it passed with a deafening noise 10 meters from the window of my room.... Loft bed...
Great accommodation
The location is excellent, just 2 minutes from the metro. Our top-floor room had a fantastic view of Prater Park and was very comfortable and well designed. We really appreciated the complimentary drink from the restaurant. The locker and changing room on the -1 floor were also very convenient, especially as we arrived early and could leave our belongings there without any inconvenience.
