The hotel room was spacious but the furniture was old. The hotel needs renovation, the location was also not great, the lift was slow, breakfast for vegetarians was sad, they can improve upon that.

Pleasant surprise
Visiting Canton Fair, we stayed in the studio-style rooms for a week, visiting local spots and Canton Tower. After days of walking the large trade fair site, it was relaxing to return to foot massage and dinner in the open-air restaurant. The local menu was great, but we didn’t try the snake on the menu, maybe next time. We would definitely stay again.

Affordable and clean
The hotel was okay, had breakfast, very few people speak English there, but I was able to communicate. No one speaks English outside the hotel, the area is medium to low income, but it was okay. Where the hotel is, the city is big, the people courteous with tourists. You have to always be careful in the city, the hotel was old, needs some remodeling but is clean.

Evaluating quality in Chinese hotels is usually challenging because they are either expensive upscale 5 stars or rundown 2 stars garbage. It's hard to find a good average 3-star hotel. After the stay between 20 to 27 of October, during the Canton fair, I am confident to say that this is a 2.5-star hotel. The main problems are the cleanliness of the beds and the smell of cigarettes. The breakfast was okay to me, but my family didn't like it. There was plenty of food, but most of it was Chinese. The price of the breakfast itself was very expensive, so do not buy it separately. There was a shuttle bus to and from the fair, and a reception party that gave me water and snacks, that was nice. And plenty of toiletries in the bathroom in my room. It is also located in a central region of the city, there was a subway entrance not very far away, and its surroundings are very dirty. I would recommend this hotel if you like to eat Chinese food, do not mind the state of the surroundings, and find it at a cheap price. It's not bad, but I think you can find something better.

There may be other choices
The sink and toilet were clogged, the room's outside view is among old buildings, the street market environment downstairs is messy. It is quite far from the subway station, about twenty minutes.

Not recommended
A lot of red-light business going on there. The management is apparently involved in it. If you want to sleep at night or on a business trip, it's really the wrong place. The environment is dirty. The room was not cleaned, or cleaned with a dry toilet brush, the same as for the toilet. Never again. Hotel with brothel included.

Convenient
It takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from Kecun Metro D Exit to the hotel. The advantage of the hotel: offers a free shuttle bus from the hotel to Canton Fair and reverse. The breakfast is okay, but the seats are limited. There's a local market nearby the hotel and it looks dirty all around.

Nice massage
I am staying at the Royal Garden Hotel for the Canton Fair. Went to the spa as it can be difficult to find trustworthy ones in Guangzhou. We chose the 238 RMB 90-minute oil massage and were asked to pay 248 RMB, which was fine (about $50 AUD). The spa is actually much bigger than expected with many rooms. Nothing too special about the rooms, but we were given tea and a slice of watermelon. A fresh pair of shorts and wrap top came out of their own plastic bag. The ladies were pleasant, and I asked to be a little more gentle, and they helped to translate what we requested on their phone. It was more of a traditional Chinese massage than a luxurious Swedish one (which was what I expected anyway, I wasn't at a 5-star hotel!). It was a nice massage and met my expectations for the price. But don't think you're getting a luxury experience and you'll enjoy yourself :) All in all, a nice, decent priced massage in a clean room with nice staff.
