The charm of the ghats, but services to be improved
The hotel is set in an old palace located on the banks of the Ganges, although the place now has more the charm of an old mansion than that of a real palace. The location is exceptional: directly on the ghats, it allows easy walking access to the various points of interest in the city. The welcome is friendly, the room is quite basic but adequate, and the meals offered are good. Thanks also to Shiva, who kindly helped us carry our luggage on departure. In the end, the location remains a real asset and the experience of staying on the ghats is unique. However, the price seemed excessive to us considering the services.

- • Access to the hotel is not simple. It is impossible to reach it directly by car and you must use their services because the establishment is at the end of several small alleys from the main road. It is also impossible to pull your suitcase: you must carry it a certain distance through the narrow and sometimes crowded alleys. We were also surprised to be disturbed twice in our room: first early in the morning, under the pretext of cleaning, but mainly to find out if we were having breakfast; a second time in the evening to invite us to come for dinner while musicians were playing in the courtyard. This way of doing things seemed quite unusual and disturbing to us. Another negative point concerns the payment process: several weeks before our arrival, we were contacted numerous times via WhatsApp for supposed problems with our credit card. However, it was working perfectly. In the end, we had to make the payment well in advance via an Indian application. This is the only hotel during our stay in India that proceeded in this way, which seemed quite unusual to us. Regarding the famous "room with a view", it must be very clear: from the room, the view is non-existent. The window is grilled and covered with an opaque plastic sheet. To enjoy the magnificent view of the Ganges, you have to leave the room and go to the terrace or rooftop. The Wi-Fi was also quite unreliable and there were many mosquitoes (they certainly had plenty of opportunities to feast on us 😉).
I would like to visit again.
The location and view were outstanding. Loved the ambience. Very tasteful interior to match the essence of the city. Good food. Peaceful dining and sitting areas. Live music every evening. The place is managed really well and run by friendly staff. I do not remember everyone's name. But the gentle approach and sober, noninterfering hospitality are appreciable. Very well-trained staff I must say! Excellent choice for quality family time. I took my 72 years old mother with me, who is suffering from back pain. She was well taken care of. She loved her stay immensely.

This hotel made our experience in Varanasi incredibly special and memorable. The location is simply outstanding, right in front of the ghats with breathtaking views of the Ganges. Waking up in the morning and experiencing the spiritual atmosphere of Varanasi from such a privileged location was something truly unique. The property is beautiful, full of charm, and very well maintained. Everything was clean, elegant, and peaceful. Our room was always spotless thanks to the excellent housekeeping team, who did a fantastic job every day. What impressed us the most was the staff. Everyone was extremely kind, professional, and genuinely caring. They made us feel welcome from the very first moment and did everything possible to make our family comfortable throughout our stay. The service was impeccable, always attentive yet warm and personal. Every request was handled with care and kindness. We highly recommend Amritara Suryauday Haveli to anyone visiting Varanasi and looking for an authentic, comfortable, and unforgettable experience by the Ganges. We would gladly stay here again.

Very professional and friendly attention. The location is extraordinary right next to the Shivala Ghat. Very good view of the Ganges from the terrace. The food was delicious and our special requests were taken into account. The hotel is a Heritage property and has a very cozy atmosphere.
