Yangshuo Village Inn

This property has seen better days. I can see why people have liked it so much in the past, but it needs some redecoration to fix it up to it's former glory. It was clean enough, but everything from the bathroom to bedrooms and common areas could use some sprucing up. Service was quite good with staff offering assistance in Chinese and English, but the food and excursions are all overpriced. For a non-chinese speaking foreigner, I would definitely recommend this place because they will take care of you, but for someone who can get around and order food in Chinese there are better options in the vicinity.

We are were a family of four.Overall the hotel, was really good because the staff’s service was top notch. The food there was tasty and it was good because it had less oil unlike other restaurants outside. The rooms are huge with a nice spacious living room and it has nice scenery with Guilin mountains.

We really enjoyed our stay at Yangshuo Village Inn. The staff were super friendly and helpful and they took the time to give us helpful tips about things to do and to chat with my wife’s parents. It felt kind of like staying with friends. The hotel is in a great location for a lot of activities like bamboo river rafting, Ru’Yi Peak, caves, river walk etc. You can rent a bike or a moped in town, which will allow you to access a lot of activities easily. The hotel provides a helpful guidebook and it was really useful for finding things to do. Someone put a lot of thought into the hotel and the garden, which is all lit up at night and is a really nice place to sit and chill out. The restaurant on the property is also good and has both Chinese food and an extensive Western menu if your kids are picky. This place is great. Highly recommended!

This place is absolutely wonderful. The owner and staff go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. English is spoken fluently. This is a very special place and we wished that we had made it our home base for several days to enjoy more of what this absolutely gorgeous area had to offer.

Outstanding service, good western and Chinese food. Our kids loved being able to get spaghetti and French toast with syrup, along with cheese omelettes. Excellent rooftop view, nice, clean rooms, but the staff are really what makes this place special. We also had great massages, organized at the last minute. We regret not planning to spend more time in the area and would have made this home base.

This hotel is amazing! The staff speak excellent English and are eager to help with anything, from booking taxis to helping you with planning your stay. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a welcome drink and then spent the evening in the rooftop restaurant, which offers delicious food and provides breathtaking views.

The hotel was the best of both worlds: Chinese look and feel with western comfort and convenience. Delicious restaurant inside the hotel with beautiful views of the mountains. The entire staff went truly above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Would highly highly recommend.

Best hotel I have ever stayed! It was so worth it for the money! The staff were just amazing - they are so friendly, they help you out with each and every request and they make you feel comfortable during your stay! Even though the hotel is further away from the main attractions, restaurants and shops, the distance didn't seem a big deal as you can easily rent a motorbike/ call a cab through the hotel for the transportation. Anyway, I will absolutely recommend this place to everyone who's planning to go to Yangshuo.

The inn is in a small village outside of Yangshou proper but this is absolutely not a problem. Great views of moon hill, wonderful, friendly staff, an excellent restaurant and lots of options for things to do. You can rent a bike, hire a guide and book tours from reception and if you have any special requests they are more than happy to help however they can. I had a fantastic stay and I will be back.

Trip of a lifetime

We had an amazing time at YangShuo Village Inn. The owner is American and the staff were genuine, warm local folks. The aesthetic of the hotel is traditional Chinese chic with all the modern conveniences. Anna and Gloria at front desk spoke good English and they helped us book private tours amongst other things like bicycles and scooter. Our room was fantastic, with mountain view. We could see Moon Hill from our room. The food was great, better than stuff offered else where. You can have meals in the garden or on the rooftop. The tours we went on exceeded all our expectations. The whole experience was surreal and one of the best trips we've been on!

Excellent quiet hotel near Yangshao.

Extremely nice place in a small tourist Village. Near several attractions for the Moon Rock Dragon Cave and Cold Cave that you can walk to. If I can convince my family to visit Guilin, I would stay here again. Rooms were very nice but above all the staff was excellent. The Luna restaurant is excellent. I usually don't eat at hotel restaurants but I ate there twice for a three day stay. The only issue the hotel is 6 miles from Yangshao. Americans can not rent cars but it's possible to rent scooters. I rented a bike and took the bus and it was not a big issue for me. Im glad I didn't stay too long in Guilin or even Yangshao.

Great view of moon hill

Village inn is located in a small village Li, and offers great views of the Moon Hill from its roof top. The rooms are small, but cozy. The staff was incredibly nice, helpful and smiling! Food was excellent! We ate all our breakfasts and dinners at Luna restaurant located on the roof top. We rented bikes and explored the area this way - highly recommended.

Great staff

The staff do everything to make you feel welcome. They help out with organising trips out and cycling routes etc. They really can't do enough for you. Yes the area is a bit out of the way and the surrounding village is a bit run down, but everyone is friendly and the area is safe.

Stay Here!

I would not stay anywhere else in Yangshuo. Beuatiful view of the mountains and just about 10 minute taxi to city-centre. Staff all speak great english. Food is superb, and rooms are modern clean and quiet!

Beautiful hotel with amazing views

This hotel is beautifully maintained, comfortable, and has friendly staff. The views are amazing. We wish that we could have spent more time here.

Amazing! Would stay again in a heartbeat!

From even before I got to the Yangshou Village Inn, I knew it would be wonderful because of the staff. Our flight got canceled from Nanjing and the Inn had arranged a car to pick us up so I contacted them via email to let them know about our flight. They were very understanding and shared their WeChat so I could communicate easier. The next day, I sent a message and Anna immediately got back to me telling me a driver would be waiting when we arrived at the airport in Guilin. When we finally got to the Inn, Tina greeted us with a welcome drink (and a hug since after all of our communication, I felt we were already friends!) and showed us to our room in the North Hall. It was AMAZING!! The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and we immediately felt at home. Tina helped us plan our couple days in Yangshou by giving us recommendations and prices and the book in the room was also a great help in giving us ideas of what to see and what to do. The Luna restaurant on the rooftop was delicious and Jessica was so professional and welcoming as well. We also had foot massages in our rooms! I knew that I could ask Anna and Tina anything and they would help us and sure enough, they did! It was so great to see them each day because they remembered our names and made us feel like we lived there! I would recommend this hotel to EVERYONE purely for the customer service! It was so refreshing because that is not always the highest priority in China (I know, because I live here!)

Very friendly and helpful

After staying in 5 star chain hotels in Beijing and Shanghai, which are all very nice, it was great to land in a small, quiet western oriented inn located in a Chinese village. The staff was very eager to make us comfortable and to help us navigate Yangzhou, which they did. Our room was spotless and the cozy lobby was warmed by a fire pit in the wall that the staff kept burning all day. Most of the staff is bilingual and fun to talk to. The inexpensive menu is good but their sister inn, the "Mountain retreat", has a bigger menu that we enjoyed even more. Our Chinese hosts, Tina, Anna, Jessica and Gloria are bilingual and fun to talk to and they made sure we had everything we needed. When we first arrived in Yangzhou late at night on the bus, Tina sent a taxi to pick us up and when we left, Anna made sure we made it to the airport in Guilin in time for our flight. Thanks to everyone at the village inn we had a great stay.

Clean comfortable hotel, great staff

Perfect hospitality and great service. The staff does all possible to make the guests comfortable. Dinner and lunch is excellent for a reasonable price.. They serve Italian as well as Chinese food

Tranquility in the midst of frantic tourist area

Very carefully re-furbished buildings, which have been very well maintained. Extremely friendly and competent front office staff (special mention of Tina, our charming hostess) and great service in the restaurant. Breakfast (as included in our package) was satisfying, as was the one pizza dinner that we enjoyed during our stay. Our suite was extremely comfortable, spacious and clean, with access to filtered drinking water much appreciated. All in all, the stay at the Village Inn rates as one of the high points of our tour of China.

Room With A View!

This is how I had hoped all my hotels in China would be! Sadly not everywhere can be this perfect, but I deliberately chose Yangshuo Village Inn for the last few days of a 2 month China trip. The pictures and blurb looked so enticing, and the reality didn't disappoint. Maybe business travellers want bland, functional rooms, but as a tourist, I like a hotel that has a bit of the character of the location. The owners of the Village Inn have gone out of their way to create a boutique hotel with loads of charm. The rooms have 'atmosphere' without going kitch, and the Moon Hill Room had a perfect view of the main attraction. Follow that up with a great restaurant, and staff who really want you to enjoy your holiday. I only wish I could have stayed longer. Many thanks for the care you put into the property, and the kindness you showed this weary traveller.

A hidden gem in a beautiful spot.

We had the most delightful stay. The air conditioning in the rooms were a lifesaver as it was hot and humid in June. The staff were all so gracious and helpful. They arranged a driver to get us from the airport late at night, as well as to arrange various other day trips. We are so happy we stayed there and highly recommend it. We were SOOO glad that we stayed here to experience Guilin, and not in town, which is 1 hour away. This was the absolute best spot for seeing the area - Li River boat trips, bike rides, bamboo rafting Yanghsuo River, etc...

A MUST STAY if Visiting Yangshuo!

We loved our stay at the Yangshuo Village Inn! The hotel staff were amazing and very accommodating. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed with fresh juice and snacks, which was a pleasant gesture considering we spent the entire day traveling. We were able to book a bike/raft tour through the hotel, and a massage. Both were very reasonably priced. It was also nice having an English speaking tour guide with us on the bike/raft tour. She was able to coordinate all logistics, which was a relief for us since the language barrier was a bit challenging. There was also an italian restaurant on the rooftop of the hotel, which was really convenient. They served breakfast, lunch and dinner, in addition to having a chinese menu option. The hotel overall was very quiet, and in a great location for the Moon Hill Hike. We especially liked that it was away from all of the hustle and bustle of downtown Yangshuo. I can't say enough good things about this place and the staff. They were so helpful, happy and accommodating!

cosy and comfortable

We were recommended this hotel by their sister property Yangshou Mountain Retreat as the other hotel was full for some of the nights. The decor was really authentic and we had a good feeling, the view of moon hill from the rooftop restaurant was excellent. The food was really good as well, chinese food was good, if you need a break, the pizza was delicious.

Great hotel outside of town in renovated farmhouse

I stayed here for 3 nights and really loved being here. The room was renovated, it was part of an old farmhouse. It was done very well with big rooms, cool bathroom set up and fixtures. Staff were exceedingly helpful and pleasant. I even ran into one of the staff in town and she helped me make some additional connections that were very helpful and it was her time off. Itwas really nice to be out of the busy town in a peaceful setting. I spent a lot of time on the roof drinking cool drinks, Writing emails, and meeting others they also arranged two days of bicycling for me which I really enjoyed. This was a great place to stay!

Short visit to Yangshuo

Wonderful place to stay outside of Yangshuo town. Staff is incredibly gracious and welcoming and can assist with any local outings a guest could imagine. Beautiful rooms with a focus on sustainability and a roof restaurant serving delicious, fresh food.

Very good service

It is a very nice hotel and the personnel is very friendly and accommodating. The only thing is the location, it is located in a small village a little bit off.

Great service, comfy beds, great italian food

We had a very nice and comfortable stay. The staff is very friendly and helpful and speak great English. They¨ll help you with anything you may need. Rooftop restaurant Luna had lovely food and good selection of wine and drinks. Rooms have comfy beds and get nice and warm also in winter.

Farmhouse rooms are great

There are a variety of rooms with different amenities and views. Farmhouse is very quaint and the service is excellent.

Next to moon hill

Great option. Highly recommended. Can't go wrong with it. Phoenix fonglou pagoda is also a great option that was a little less expensive and the food was better because of a better selection of local famous chinese dishes.

Excellent location and service

I'd definitely recommend staying here. We had a great room with a balcony and view of Moon Hill, comfortable bed and very clean room. The hotel is well positioned outside of (but not too far from) Yangshuo, easily accessible to lots of sites/activities - and the staff were extremely helpful with helping us organise that, and they spoke very good English. Also enjoyed the delicious breakfasts in the leafy courtyard in the mornings and excellent restaurant on the roof for dinner at any other time of day.

advice for tired travellers

Every now and then when travelling in China,you get lucky. We found this place whilst still paying for 3 rooms at the absolutely crap Guilin Plaza. The Yangshou Inn is so good that we left all our luggage in our pre paid rooms in Guilin and stayed here instead. My only complaint is that during July, the so called village was visited by....... 180 large coaches ( yes we counted). this is not the hotels fault but it ruins your exit from the front door as the dust and noise are shocking. I recomend you hire some scooters and go into the mountain villages, stunning people and scenery. Do not visit the stupid tree or do the river cruise they are horrific,tourist factory farming at it's absulute worst. Eat nasi goreng upstairs and have the coconut milkshake........perfection.

Great base to explore the Yangshuo region

A great welcome at this friendly Inn. Good food, staff helpful and knowledgeable. Had a room in the farmhouse that is large, airy and with all the facilities we needed.

Fantastic Experience

We had an amazing stay at the Yangshuo Village Inn! It surpassed all of our expectations in all categories! Everyone went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. They helped us plan some wonderful day trips, meals, and night activities! We were always greeted with big smiles and felt very welcomed! Highly recommend it - wish I could have spent more time there!

China in the day, return to 1st world at night

Most hotels in China are very uneven,eg, an otherwise nice place may stink of smoke or dog, or have a disturbing loud air conditioning. The service at this place was very smooth as well as relaxed. A friendly staff with a cold cup of sweet tea and a wet cloth greets you when you arrive. The rooms are very cozy. The decor is very artful, but again, relaxed. The surrounding area is beautiful, and with the exception of a neighbor who likes to play Chinese cow-punk music in the morning, very quiet. (Call the police at 110 and ask them to enforce the noise ordinance.) The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable. The only thing I could complain about was the shower, which did have a lot of power.

Lovely Staff

We had a lovely time in Yangzhou. The location is very good. We were very glad we stayed here rather than in town. It is much closer cycling and taxi distance to the main attractions, and more scenic. Still very rustic, but clean and very comfortable. The staff were really wonderful and made us feel at home. Sitting in the courtyard under the pomelo trees we felt relaxed and very much apart of the village. An excellent stay. The sister hotel is located in a more beautiful location, but does not have the authentic village feel.

Friendly country inn, a short ride from Yangshuo

The staff really makes this a great place to stay. Very helpful and friendly. This means a lot in a country that is still developing its tourist infrastructure. Be aware that this hotel is not in Yangshuo town but rather is in Moon Village about a 15 minute / 30 yuan cab ride away. It is set among beautiful scenery but the village itself doesn't offer much beyond curio shops. The hotel roof top restaurant really puts out excellent food at fair prices. We would definitely return to this hotel.

Give Guilin half a day and head for Langshuo!!!

I was in the modernised rather charming traditional farmhouse out the back of the main modern building. There were five ensuite rooms but I was the only guest at the time. The wooden floors might be a bit noisy with a full complement of guests. The locals chatted rather noisily in the lane ouside in the evenings but all was quiet by 10pm. No passing traffic at all. Fruit available and hot water for hot drinks.Aircon.WiFi.Note the matresses are very firm! The staff were great. Luna restaurant on the roof terrace of the main hotel had a good Italian menu. I hired one of the mountain bikes and had a great day cycling the lanes by the local Yangshuo rivers.The main roads have steady traffic but the by-ways are very quiet. One day had heavy rain so I went to the more up-market sister property called the Mountain Retreat even tho' it atually is situated on a river-bank in a wide valley. Good lunch and bar service as the rain poured down outside! Note that Moon Hill is about 9 kilometres away from the frenetic buzz of Yangshuo town. Good cheap taxi service connections can be arranged by the reception desk. Moon Hill has a main street which has been by-passed by the main highway. A quiet safe street with twenty or more grocery stores and cheap Chinese cafes. The local area is studded with the karst limestone crags rising out of the fields. Note that is easy for your Guilin agent to book you a Li River lunch cruise to Yangshuo and you abandon the return journey to Guilin.

Yanshuo Village Inn - place to relax

This accommodation is highly rated for experiencing living in a village. Inn is quiet, breakfast in the garden, dinner in the rooftop restuarant. Staff very helpful, good understanding of English so organising tours are easily arranged. Moon Hill lookout is within walking distance. Rooms have modern bathroom facilities. Transport to Yangshuo available.
