Quiet luxury

I have always wanted to stay here and it didn't disappoint. The French colonial architecture is stunning as are the views of the river (I had a river view). Yes, the food & drinks are more expensive than the street but I still think they are good value especially the happy hours. BUT the one thing that stood out was the service. It is exceptional and friendly without being cheesy or pushy. Every staff member takes great attention to your likes and are lovely to chat with.

Happy hour drinks at the Anantara is a special time to watch the lantern-lit river boats and the sunset

The location of the Anantara in Hoi An is perfect, being on the river and close to the old town. We stayed 3 nights (2 nights get one night free offer) we arrived on the Vietage by Anantara train from Quy Nhon using the hotel arranged pickup from Da Nang. I know the hotel well, have stayed there alone, with the whole family and this time just with my wife. A stay in Hoi An wouldn’t be the same without some time at the Anantara. We had a garden-facing room, the rooms are just perfect and our package had a free minibar. Sarah and I would have a beer in the comfortable private lobby area outside the room. We used the lobby a lot, it has a fan, daybeds on either side of the entrance. The wall over the bed had a photo by local celebrity photographer Rehahn, his art can be seen outside the breakfast/spa area. Every evening we would have happy hour drinks at the Hoi An riverside restaurant. Thao served us our drinks most evenings, which was Jasmine IPA (Saigon Pasteur brewery) for me and Sarah would have the Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough, which were both served ice-cold in ice-cold glasses. Thao I remember from my first stay at the hotel in 2022, it’s always a good sign when key staff like Thao are there when you return, it makes you feel at home. Happy hour 4-6 pm, buy one get one free is an institution at the hotel where guests mingle and chat, watch the sunset and the boats chug up the river to find their guests for a lantern-lit boat trip (the boats reminded us of the 70s TV show the wacky races). When we left the Anantara for another Hoi An colonial-style hotel, we came back each night for happy hour. Breakfast is excellent, I had Pho Ga each morning with fruit and Vietnamese iced coffee. I used the gym, well-equipped with Technogym equipment. One morning I attended the complementary Yoga session in the pool area at 7:30 am, I was the only one and experienced a memorable private session with Julie, I was treated to a head massage during the relaxation at the end

Our stay at Anantara Hoi An was wonderful. The room was spacious and well-appointed. The location hotel is tucked into a quieter, more peaceful part of town, yet within easy reach of Hoi An's charming Old Town, shops, and attractions. Breakfast was a treat every morning with a generous, varied spread with something for every taste and appetite. The staff were an absolute highlight. Warm, friendly, and genuinely engaged, they went out of their way to share local tips. Recommending things to do around Hoi An and pointing us toward the best spots for Vietnamese food based on our preferences.

  • The bathroom doesn't have a bidet. The open shower design means water tends to splash onto the floor, which can get slippery. Neither was a dealbreaker by any means, but worth being mindful of.
