Dangerously slippery shower
We stayed at this hotel after a Viking cruise. Although the location is wonderful, the showers are extremely dangerous. I slipped and broke my wrist, spent a night in the hospital and had surgery. The hotel staff was mildly sympathetic and did their best to avoid me after the accident, especially when I inquired about completing an accident report. There are comments on this site regarding other guests who were injured as well after slipping in the NJV showers. I would not recommend this hotel unless the showers are modified with larger bath mats and grab bars.

Beautiful view from a modern era hotel but also a noisy public square that might bother some
The NJV Plaza hotel is located on Syntagma Square, literally the center of Athens, with a metro stop as well as the end of the tram line leading to the coast. This is a 1980s era hotel with a pretty full range of facilities including restaurant, cafe, bar, business center, etc. I didn't check the athletic facilities, if any, nor did I patronize restaurants except the cafe in the ground floor. The hotel is located next to the two most expensive hotels in the city, so it's on a prime block, and compared to those hotels it's great value for the location. Our room on the sixth floor had a direct Square/Parthenon view and as first time visitors to Athens it gave great pleasure to step out on the balcony (low balustrade, caution for families) to see the urban panorama. Truly a five star view. I would call the hotel four star plus for decor and ambience. Hallway carpets are dated and the room decor is slightly worn, such as doorknobs, balcony doors, bathroom fixtures. This was not a major issue. Staff were polite and moved rooms for us when we asked. Syntagma is a location for protests (we saw one) and for street musicians (we heard them every night). Even on six you will hear the noise. Balcony doors don't keep it out. So the view is the biggest hotel asset but the noise from that view is the down side. Overall we enjoyed our stay of five nights but wish the hotel was a little fresher in terms of hallway and room decor.

Ok needs updating
Rooms clean and comfortable but plastic furniture should be replaced. Need to replace all tubs with stand up shower and replace bathroom fixtures. Too much Street noise.

Terrible experience, staff are extremely rude and despite us selecting "clean our room" option, the room was slightly cleaned up. Like we drop a medicine accidentaly at our first day in the room and it wasn't cleaned up on our forth day :) Though the breakfast was stunning and also it's very close to the city centre. Another thing to complain is the isolation in the rooms, we were waked up by the noises next to our room and the room on top not because they were too noisy but the isolation was bad. Btw the image is misleading the hotel is 1/3 of the block you see there, there are 3 hotels stacked side by side.

Definitely not a 5 star hotel
Location is great in the center of Athens near the Parliament and the hub of shops and restaurants. It appears it is more catered to large tour groups and business type clients. The rooms and they are clean, however, our room had an issue with the shower door leaking. Not just a little but the floor would be flooded. When I called the front desk the first thing I was told before even receiving an apology was "we are fully booked". A maintenance man arrived and came back several times but was unable to fix the problem. This was a Saturday night and they did not send anyone again until Monday. Each time we showered, housekeeping had to come and clean up the water all over the bathroom floor. There was not one night we were able to just return to our room, shower and rest. I was never offered a change of room or any type of remediation. Upon checkout I requested an adjustment on our invoice and was told since it was booked through a 3rd party they would have to address the issue. This is how you are treated for paying €850 a night. The front desk staff also is aloof. The hotel clientele appears to be mostly large tour groups and business clients so they don't really need to go out of their way. This hotel does not match the qualifications of a 5 star hotel.
