Gold member, booked direct at full rate - treated no better than a third-party booking

We stayed for two nights (Thursday to Saturday) as a family of four with two young children, on a package that included breakfast and pool (Eureka) access. I am a Hilton Honors Gold member and booked directly through the Hilton website at the full rate. Unfortunately, this stay left me with the strong impression that guests are viewed primarily as revenue sources. From check-in to check-out, not a single word was said about my Honors Gold benefits. The entire process was indistinguishable from a standard third-party booking. If elite status and booking direct mean nothing at the property level, I genuinely wonder why anyone would bother booking through Hilton at all. While the staff were silent about benefits, they were remarkably precise when it came to charges. The fact that the two-person breakfast included in our package could not be combined with my Gold breakfast benefit was only confirmed at check-out, with no advance notice. When I inquired about late check-out, a standard Gold courtesy subject to availability, I was simply quoted a paid rate, with no mention of my status. Our package included pool access for both nights, but we only used it on one day. Even so, we were told that two of our four guests would be charged extra as a matter of policy, and that a single-day adjustment was not possible. When benefits must be discovered and demanded by the guest while charges are proactively enforced by the hotel, that is not hospitality. That is a billing counter. The core services did not make up for any of this. Breakfast quality was below average compared to other hotel chains, and the meat dishes, especially the bulgogi, were frankly poor for a hotel carrying this brand name. Housekeeping was worse. When we vacated our room in the late afternoon and requested service, the housekeeper sighed to my face and asked, "You want the room cleaned at this hour?" I never imagined receiving that kind of response at a Hilton property. I am not looking for compensation. I simply hope management invests in proper staff training across the front desk, F&B, and housekeeping, both on Honors member recognition and on basic service standards. We will not be returning, but I am leaving this review so that future guests know what to expect.

The only big American hotel brand in Gyeongju. 3.5 out of 5.

There aren't many choices in Gyeongju if you want big hotel comfort. Booked 3 nights as Gold with cash. The price was right (cheap for me). They do not value gold members. No upgrade was made available, (unless lake view is an upgrade) they do not even grant lounge passes like many other international Hiltons do. Room was dated. Kind of musty. Got woken up several times by doors slamming in the hallway in the middle of the night, bad guests + heavy doors = very loud noise. We had to kill an hour at the lobby lounge while waiting for check-in, (still got in early), the food took a long time but was good. Most staff seemed friendly. Breakfast was pretty good, and expansive. Standard Asian + western spread. Location of course is bleh. But this is a taxi town anyway. My least favorite international Hilton (been to several in Japan, Europe, etc) so far, but in Gyeongju you have no choice. And for less than $150 per night, we tolerated it.
