O pior hotel de sempre!
Absolutely the worst hotel experience ever! I am someone who travels frequently all around the world and have stayed in many different hotels of all classes and cities. For several meetings, there are colleagues staying in the same hotel, and we are all so dissatisfied with no-service of this hotel. Every person had some issue with electricity, leakages of the toilet, air conditioners, and noise problem, and every single colleague had to change their rooms. We did too because after one unsatisfactory night, the air con broke down making a huge banging noise continuously!! The reception is so used to complaints that they are never surprised to hear from us. We moved to the top floor of the hotel where we hear the motor of the elevators 24/7 with trembles. Aside from that, there is a separate elevator to the rooftop next to our door, so it makes an alarming sound every time it stops on the floor. The slow elevators are so slow that we have to calculate that in our schedule. Sometimes had to wait for 5 minutes. We don’t expect 5-star hotel quality from Novotel but even the basic needs cannot be met in this hotel - we slept very badly and feel restless as a result. The walls are also thin.

Lots of choice at breakfast. It is constantly being replenished. It is clean. There is a lovely smell upon entering the reception. Cozy atmosphere at the rooftop. Perfect location. Close to the beach. Many shops and restaurants nearby.

- • The receptionists are very weak, I waited 20 minutes to be served, with only two people in front of me. They put the least knowledgeable person to attend to the priority. To make matters worse, the shower tap in the room came loose, there was a cockroach in the bathroom, and the air conditioning was faulty. I paid 1200 reais for a terrible service.
The pool, food, and location were great. Reception staff were polite and helpful.

- • The lift failed when we were there, frustrating having to wait for lifts at busy times. As the bedroom windows didn’t open, there was a musty smell.
Great hotel with prime rooftop
Great rooftop bar with a nice small pool and lovely views, very good breakfast, unnecessarily large room with a smart TV. 50 meters from Leme beach. Reception staff speak great English.

The hotel detracted from the stay in Rio
I did not enjoy our stay. For the first half of our stay, one of the main elevators didn’t work - this made an extremely slow service to 21 floors, and people packed into a tiny elevator. The door to our shower didn’t close - this made a swamp every time someone showered. There were also gnats in the shower. The sheets were dingy and looked dirty - it was as though the hotel didn’t use bleach. One of the towels I had was so thin, when I held it up to the light I could see through it. I don’t understand the great reviews - I suspect many are for the rooftop restaurant, which was nice. The neighborhood was great - we liked staying somewhere less touristy and more authentic. We are just used to boutique hotels with personal service and not a chaotic breakfast, sheets that appear dirty, and terribly thin bath towels. I would have shared this with the staff, but no one bothered asking how our stay was.
