VELVET

Beautiful hotel remodeled with Art Deco reminiscences. The room on the top floor with a beautiful terrace and comfortable bathroom. It was like going back to the Art Deco years but in a modern minimalist version. Very close to Atocha for those traveling by train

  • During a 12-day trip, I stayed at this hotel on the first and last day - which, in fact, shows that I initially considered the option valid for the beginning and end of the trip. The location is good and the breakfast also deserves positive mention. However, there is one essential point that completely compromises the experience: the service. It is not about direct disrespect, but something that is equally relevant to me: the total absence of hospitality. The service is excessively formal, dry, and rushed, without any demonstration of cordiality or genuine interest in welcoming guests. And this is completely different from the expected - and experienced - standard in other accommodations throughout the trip. A specific episode reinforces this perception. I asked if it was possible to leave a luggage at the hotel since I would return days later - in fact, this was one of the reasons for choosing the same hotel again. I was informed that it would not be possible. Although the hotel has the right to establish its rules, what was strange was not the denial itself, but how it was handled: a brusque communication, overly objective and without any empathy or attempt at collaboration. Later, I sent a message to the hotel with a constructive intention, reporting the situation. The response followed the same pattern: dry justifications, defensive posture, and arguments that did not address the main point raised - which was never the rule itself, but the approach. I must make a fair note: a single employee - a young, blonde girl - had a different attitude, being cordial and receptive. However, all other interactions followed the same cold and distant line. On my last day, I left the hotel with a bad feeling, which is quite significant, especially considering it is an accommodation with a high daily rate. I am flexible to overlook other aspects in an accommodation when there are compensations.
