Poor value
Disappointed. I booked the “superior plus” room, which turned out to be a broom closet at the end of a small hallway. No view. When I complained I was offered an upgrade for $100 USD additional per night. The Wi-Fi was terrible and the television did not work. When checking out I was given the very unpleasant surprise that you’re charged an outrageously high fee for using the pool. Something they didn’t tell me beforehand. It’s a nice location but otherwise a horrible experience. Definitely recommend anywhere else in Oslo.

A grand old hotel in the middle of Oslo
I stayed at the Grand Hotel Oslo and overall it’s a really solid option, mainly because of where it sits in the city. You’re right in the middle of everything, an easy walk to the Royal Palace Oslo, close to Nationaltheatret Station, and within a few hundred metres of a main bus hub. Most of the key sights are nearby, so getting around is straightforward. The rooms are nice without being over the top. Comfortable, well kept, and in line with what you’d expect from a hotel with that kind of history. Service was consistently good, and the bar downstairs is worth a visit, it’s got a great feel to it in the evenings. The gym is also better than expected if you’re planning to use it. A couple of small things stood out though. There’s no water in the rooms, which feels like an easy win they’ve missed. Also, you have to pay extra if you want to use the sauna and pool, which isn’t ideal. The rooftop bar looked great but was booked out when I was there for a corporate event, so worth checking ahead if that’s something you’re keen on. One of the more interesting parts of the hotel is the underground wine cellar. It’s got a bit of character, and the guy running it clearly knows his stuff. If you just tell him what you like, he’ll sort you out. For something easy nearby, Olivia Aker Brygge is just up the road and always reliable. All in, it’s a comfortable stay in a great location. Not perfect, but easy to recommend if you want to be right in the middle of Oslo.

Stay somewhere else!
Staff on check in were really rude, which gave us a really bad first impression and was a real shame as the reception area is beautiful and the location is great. Rooms are very basic, over priced and incredibly hot (there is air conditioning but it was turned off). Would not recommend this hotel.

Disappointing
Zero recognition of Scandic status. I knew the hotel was stingy based on the long list of benefits that do not apply, but I did not expect ALL the rest of them to be ignored too. No upgrades despite better rooms being available to book, no welcome card or anything in the room, on top of the lack of vouchers and discounts (to be fair the latter were mentioned on the website) and surly service at the front desk. Checkout time was a disappointing 12:30 when 1pm would have been a standard extended checkout time for status members. In fact, Hotel Norge (another signature Scandic property) routinely offers 3pm or 4pm for free! Additionally, the hotel charged me an arbitrary additional 300NOK for accidentally booking the room for one person instead of two DESPITE the original price being the same since no breakfast is included anyway. To top it all off, the front desk tried to charge for the room at checkout despite it already being pre-paid (by booking directly on Scandic, not a third party website) and despite pre-payment being acknowledged at check-in! The room itself was basic and definitely not worth the rates charged, though at least it was inoffensive.

Nice hotel-but bedrooms not 5 star standard.
We selected this hotel as it was 5 star, central and potentially a unique experience in comparison to modern hotels. The staff are excellent to a person. Polite, professional, helpful and provide a 5 star experience. The choice at breakfast is excellent. However, the petite queen rooms are very small and not what is conveyed on the website. They lack room and sufficient drawers to store clothes if staying more than 2 nights. A charge of 250k to use the hotel pool and sauna is very expensive and highly unusual for paying guests. The minibar is grossly expensive (93k for a bottle of water) and should be complimentary. Small touches such as a brolly for the weather would be an obvious guest service. We loved Oslo and the people but disappointed with this hotel.

Grand Hotel Oslo has seen better days
Once the grand dame of Oslo hotels, it has become tired, with a bathroom upgrade urgently needed. Stepping into a bathtub to shower, an overheated room and paying to use the sauna/pool is not what five star hotels are about in 2026. The Continental Hotel Oslo is a higher end hotel.

Grand old Dame of Oslo didn’t fail to impress
Look and feel of a very upmarket hotel with lots of history and it doesn’t fail. Excellent service, fab lobby bar, room was fine if a little on the small side, location great (although outside noise annoying in the late hours)…overall a very nice stay and would definitely return

Week trip to Oslo
We stayed for 4 nights and throughly enjoyed the city. The hotel is well located and the beds were comfy. The cleaning service was excellent. Despite this being a special occasion for me, there was less than a welcoming opportunity to enjoy more of the hotel from the front desk. I expected more. The rooms are basic and the overall feel of the hotel was clean but dated. It is about 5yrs out from some serious CAPEX. The hotel room ha part thin walls and despite being on the 4/5 floor, it was noisy. There was working and sawing at 7.10am one morning which really wasn’t on. The SPA is enjoyable if used during mid afternoon as you will be unbothered but the steam room needed a through clean/bleach. The 250 NOK is too much for a paying guest. Would I stay here again, probably not. I am sure I could find a better version nearby.
