Great budget hotel, lovely building and grounds.
Breakfast was great, choice from a full english and some self service items. Minimal choice of self service items however the emphasis was on the full english.

- • Bathroom is dated and the shower was very small and took about 10 minutes for the shower to heat up, but this was ok. Not super clean but clean enough.
Staff were lovely and very helpful

- • Quite dated and tired. Struggled with water temp in bath, toilet running for half an hour after flushing and temperature control in the room.
Appalling service and facilities.

- • I was in Hitchin to go to Easter Sunday lunch at the home of some good friends of mine. I arrived late morning and knew I wouldn’t get into my room but wanted to check in and drop my bag off as I knew I would be arriving back late evening. There was no one in reception, and the office at the back was both open and unoccupied, but there were instructions to pick up the desk phone which diverted to someone’s mobile. I said what I wanted to do and was told by the man who answered that check in wasn’t until 3pm but he’d come and take my bag. He appeared, reeking of weed, and told me again I couldn’t check in until 3pm, not even complete their forms. He then took my bag and put it by the open door of the office a few feet away. Anyone could walk into the reception and see and take the bag. I asked for a receipt and he pointed to the camera and said that would do. It was appalling and did not feel remotely secure. When I duly arrived back at about 11pm I had to describe my bag to retrieve it (fortunately it was still there). I was led up to a room that had no lights so I had to be allocated another. The rooms are very shabby and tired, although the sheets seemed clean. The bed was hard and the room very cold. The curtains were hanging off the rail. No glass with which to get some water. It was definitely a ‘keep your socks on because you don’t want to put a bare foot on the carpet’ type of room. The fire alarm went off randomly for a few minutes early the next morning, Easter Monday. There was no explanation about this afterwards nor even an apology. Fortunately I was having breakfast at my friends’ home so didn’t have to endure the breakfast - my expectations of that were very low. Absolutely appalling place. The only thing in its favour is the town centre location. Stay at your peril.
