Renovation needed!
Our long journey to Australia began in March, in Sydney, where we spent four days. For our stay, we chose the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, as its location is outstanding. It is situated close to the city’s main tourist attractions, such as Circular Quay, the Opera House, the Botanic Gardens, the Harbour Bridge, The Rocks, etc. In fact, this is the hotel’s main strength. During check-in, we noticed that, unlike other Marriott properties, there was no dedicated counter for Marriott Bonvoy Elite Members. The check-in process was friendly and quick, but lacked detailed explanations. We observed that the hotel lobby met the usual standards of the brand. As Titanium members, we were upgraded to a city-view suite on the top floor (#3205). Unfortunately, the suite’s layout was outdated, old, and worn. The furniture was basic, the bed was firm and not particularly comfortable, and the air conditioning did not allow us to maintain the desired temperature. The bathrooms had old fixtures. In the room, complimentary water and coffee were provided. However, upon arrival there was no welcome letter, as is customary for Elite Members. Housekeeping delivered a standard service, but not an exceptional one. There was no turndown service. Nevertheless, we consider one of the hotel’s highlights to be the Executive Lounge, despite the space itself not being particularly appealing. Here, the buffet breakfast was good, as was the food and beverage offering during the happy hour, which took place between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. During this period, soup and starters, a main course, and desserts were served. Drinks included soft drinks, white and red wine, sparkling wine, and spirits. The service was efficient, but impersonal. We did not comment on the other hotel facilities, as we did not use them and they were not presented to us. Therefore, our ratings are: • Suite: 3 stars • Executive Lounge: 4 • Location: 5 In summary, our final evaluation of this hotel is 4 stars, but somewhat overrated. The property urgently needs a thorough renovation of its facilities.
