Hotel La Basílica Quito is a wonderful place to stay in the historic center of Quito. The hosts are gracious, informative, and caring. The room was immaculate and beautiful and the hotel is a wonderfully preserved historic home. Breakfast was served graciously and included a fresh cut assortment of tasty fruit and eggs prepared to order. We felt well cared for here.

The staff is so accommodating, and the rooms are beautifully appointed. Nice warm showers, excellent breakfast included. Two patios, one with a vertical garden. Access to the roof top for a view of the sunrise. We all agreed we would definitely stay there again.

Terrible experience
The hotel is a very nice mansion, with a decoration of questionable taste although the building is magnificent. Upon arriving in the room, you find the typical towel swans on the bed, yes, old and frayed towels, and undeniably kitsch paintings. The rooms are spacious but extremely uncomfortable as they face an interior courtyard (Booking also states that they have 'Views of places of interest', but they only face the courtyard), there is no natural light even when opening the curtains, and if you do, you are totally exposed to the public; the breakfast has no cold cuts or cheese, just a plate of fruit, ONE toast, and, on one occasion, a juice, although they offer eggs but it is very poor.

- • Many things that do not fit in this space: they do not store luggage after check out, the discomfort of the room, etc. But this would be the least of it compared to what happened to me, something unheard of. Before arriving, they told me via WhatsApp that reception was from 14:00 to 23:00 and check out at 12:00. I checked their website and Booking's, where I had made the reservation. Both stated 24-hour reception. When I mentioned this to the lady at reception, with all the politeness in the world, I received an unacceptable treatment from her: that I had chosen the hotel because of the offer, that I was lying, that they never made mistakes because it was a 13-room hotel, all while calling me 'Mari' and speaking to me disrespectfully, while I remained calm and addressed her politely. And she ended up telling me that the mistake was Booking's and that I should complain to them. I told her I would do so and went to my room. An hour later, she knocked on my door and I, naively, thought she was coming to apologize, but quite the opposite: she said they would refund my money and that I should 'leave immediately' (sic), that they did not want me in that hotel because I had blackmailed and threatened them (sic) with leaving a review on Booking and that the owner did not want me there. She insisted and insisted, that I was not wanted there, that I had to leave. When I told her no, that I had paid and asked her to leave, she put her foot in the door and pushed me to enter, not letting me close it. Speechless. Later, someone from the hotel continued to send me messages via WhatsApp, telling me that I had been 'grotesque', that I had threatened in a bad way, etc. The hotel will probably say that this did not happen like this, but I am telling it exactly as it was and I have copies and photos of everything. I am still in shock and, of course, I have filed a complaint with the Ministry of Tourism since they told me they did not have a complaints book when I requested it.
A very nice way to start a trip. The host family is amazing and made it a wonderful experience.

Great location- wonderful staff!
The location is ideal close to the main square and the basilica. The rooms are so quaint. The owner and staff made you feel like you were family.

Would have been fine if not for the owner
Beautiful hotel building, large rooms, great location. But all of this is overshadowed by the woman who works here.

- • The female owner of the hotel is horrible. She tries to nickel and dime you for every single thing, and treats you like you're children. Also beware that there is NO option of luggage storage for a late flight out. She will only offer to charge you the entire cost of the room. This was very inconvenient for us and is completely ridiculous. She has more than enough space. I wish I had seen a review about this before booking because I absolutely would not have booked here.
Wonderful family hotel in heart of city center.
The hotel is situated just down the street from the cathedral and this family takes care of their guests. Delightful!
