Great view and nice big room for two
We got a complimentary room upgrade and had a better view of the ocean. The bed was very big and room was suitable for us. The aircon was a bit low but it worked well.

Last time we stay there.
The location is wonderful and the views are incredible. The staff were very friendly and courteous. We have stayed at the hotel at lest 15 times over the years. Check in very good and the room was ready and very clean. The breakfast is SENSATIONAL. There are so many great things about this hotel. UNFORTUNATELY, we wont be staying there ever again and the reasons are as follows. The price of the room was high. O.K. we knew that but you expect more. The escalator wasn't working again. The pool is still not renovated after a great deal of time. We ordered a room service meal as we were very tired and it arrived cold and inedible. We were charged $50.00 for one small pizza. We threw it out. We booked dinner the next night in the restaurant and we were meeting a guest. The menu is very limited and when the food arrived, we were extremely disappointed and I did not eat mine. So, two nights - no food. Told one staff member of the issues and they said they were sorry and would pass it on. No response from the management. It gives us no pleasure to write this.

4 star
Need to improve to be 4 star. Even the fridge in the room too old. The shower area is too old not clean.

Unfortunately we were not told prior that the pool was closed for renovations which is something we were both looking forward to

It’s lost its GRAND!!!
For a hotel with Grand in its name, don’t be fooled, it’s far from grand. It’s run down, tired and in places dirty. From check in to check out this premium priced hotel did not live up to expectations. No pool, no front lobby, lifts and escalators at times not functioning. Rooms are dated, dirty balcony, smelly linen. Nothing to even compensate for the disruption of renovations like complimentary water. My mistake was not reading enough reviews, this hotel does not rate well. It’s certainly not a 4 star hotel and booking agencies should not be selling it as one. It’s surviving on the monopoly of being the only hotel in the area and the FIFO’s on their weeks off who flood the area. My advice, unless they start pricing as a 3 star hotel should, avoid this hotel.

Disappointed
The hotel is situated in such a beautiful location that it was fairly easy to overlook the tired surrounds and inconsistent cleaning. What we struggled with though was the service. After staying for five nights we had our flight rescheduled to the following day due to airline strikes. When I asked whether we could extend our stay for a night I was told I needed to book two days. I explained three times the situation and eventually was told they would request an exception?!?! I was told it would be about 500 for an additional night. Two hours later I was told an exception? Had been granted and it would be 799AU (over 900 NZ ). But the online booking price was 648 pn .... which i couldnt book because of the two night minimum. Needless to say we packed up and found something in the CBD. I understand booking principles but when someone has already spent five nights at your hotel ... .

How long can the Reno’s go on 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️
We love the position of this hotel and have visited many times over the years. Being so close to the beach restaurants cafes the glorious sunsets which are breath taking is the bonus. The room we had on the 18th floor was a good size with a balcony looking north. What was very disappointing is the front entrance is not accessible. Nope not able to even drop cases or elderly as it is all locked down. So to the back entry it is …. Oh the circular door is propped open …. No doesn’t work. The escalators were not working for a full day while we were there. The pool is not open …. Years now …Still under renovations with the end date continuously being pushed out ….. oh they do give you free passes to the local public pool ….mmmmm not quite the same having to cross the road and walk 300 metres down the road. No return visit for us ….

Comfy beds but hotel is run down and need a lot of work
Recently had a romantic staycation in Scarborough for the long weekend. An annoying and disappointing start to the holiday with the front entrance and car park access fully blocked and closed as part of their current reservations, but not once on their website or any email correspondence were we informed of this, so had to walk around the block to the back entrance of the hotel at night with all our luggage in tow. Walking into the hotel, the escalator was not working (but did notice they had this fixed by dinner time a few hours later) Upon check in we were also informed their pool area is completely shut down as part of renovations (again, zero notifications or email correspondence about this on the website or prior to booking). They did however do a deal with the new scarborough pool and as a guest you have free access to their facilities. I think it is just polite and good business sense to let your patrons know this information on the website before they book as well as via email communications upon booking. We did also have to reconfirm our breakfast and late check out at check in as they were having issues with their system (but we can't get upset over IT stuff) Room was lovely upon first inspection and nothing like being able to hear the waves crash as you fall asleep or wake up. When you closely inspect things however you do notice how much this hotel has aged; dirty stains on the carpet, holes in the sheets, paint missing around door frames and the balcony had either bird poo or paint drops on it and quite a few dead bugs (I don't think they sweep the balconies between guests) Positives were the bed was extremely comfy along with the pillows and the toiletries provided in the bathroom were good quality and smelt divine. I also liked the fact that each room had individual air-conditioning so you can have it as cold or warm as you like. Unfortunately the building wide makeover is very much overdue with a lot of the hotel looking dirty, damaged and cobwebs in a lot of the communal spaces. Such a disappointment from when this place used to be "fancy" to stay at. We paid for the buffet breakfast and were very happy with the choices provided, it was a good variety and food was quite yummy. The coffee cups were quite small but it's good to help stop food waste and you can go back as much as you like. Location wise this is perfectly located in Scarborough with plenty of bars and resteraunts surrounding it (but the doors in your room are excellent for blocking out the street noises) and you have a coles across the street for snacks or anything you forget. Worth signing up for their rewards program as you get a discounted room rate and access to some "special" choices - we used the free late check option which gave us till 12pm and then we also received a bottle of sparkling wine and some chocolates in our room at check in Would we come back? Only once renovations were complete where it hopefully restores this place to its former glory.
