Great base for R&R and exploring

I stayed here for two nights before joining the Ghan to Adelaide. My Executive room was upgraded to an Executive view room, probably due to my HH status. The lobby was far more impressive than I expected. The rooms are clearly recently refurbished, comfortable and contemporary. Common areas were clean and tidy. The pool area is nice and I spent a whole afternoon there, having food and drink delivered through the QR code ordering. Gym is well kitted out too. Breakfast was excellent on my first morning, and the hotel made me a continental breakfast box to take with me due to early departure on the final day. (Tip - the spread at The Darwin Railway terminal was much more than I expected, so if you are joining the Ghan I wouldn’t bother with breakfast before leaving). The Executive Lounge was great, with two wonderful hosts. The hors d’ouvres were varied and just enough for me on the first night with some cheese. On the second night, I just popped in for a drink prior to dining at Meraki (absolute must go to if you like Greek food). The staff were impressive throughout the hotel, smiley and professional. My only downside was that they serve Chain of Fire wines in the Exec lounge which, as I’ve written in another recent review, are cheap plonk. First world problem I know, but if you don’t put it on your restaurant wine list don’t serve it to your customers who are paying a premium. I switched to a G&T instead, but was looking forward to a good glass of wine. There are issues in Darwin the same as most cities. Whilst there are homeless people around I certainly didn’t feel threatened as a single woman in the early evening on a Friday night. During the day I walked all around the Esplanade, down to the Courts and Parliament, and to the marina, and its a lovely area.
